Insuring Your Bike

It is a legal requirement for you to have valid motor insurance before you go out on the roads. The insurance company must have a registered office in Guernsey and so you are advised to seek guidance from an insurance dealer or broker.

Please take note of the specific details of your insurance as many motorcycle policies (but not all) are of known as a "Rider Policy" ie you are insured to ride any motorcycle up to the capacity (i.e. cc) stated on the policy. If this is the case then you should be aware that this insurance cover does not allow anyone else to ride your bike.

If you are asked to produce your insurance (for example when attending CBT) then you must show your Certificate of Insurance at this point, not the schedule of insurance.

The penalties for riding with no insurance are harsh in Guernsey, with a mandatory one year suspension of licence plus a large fine in most cases.
